Why it happens
The mechanism: wrist stays still, watch sees nothing
Apple Watch infers steps from wrist motion. When you type, your wrists rest nearly stationary on the desk. Combined with the slow pace of treadmill-desk walking (1–3 km/h), the wrist signal can be too subtle for the Watch’s algorithms to register as steps.
The result: you walk 5 km and your rings barely move. The watch isn’t broken — it’s just not designed for this specific use case.
